High and medium pressure diving hoses: how to choose?

A diving hose is chosen according to three things: the pressure it carries (high pressure for the gauge, medium pressure for the second stage and inflator), the hose material (classic rubber or braided like Miflex, lighter and more flexible), and the length suited to your configuration. The right hose is the one whose pressure, fittings and length exactly match the element it supplies.

On professional equipment, an unsuitable or worn hose is a critical point of failure. Here is how to choose and tell them apart.

High pressure or medium pressure: what is the difference?

The high-pressure (HP) hose links the first stage to the gauge: it carries the tank pressure to display remaining air. The medium-pressure (MP) hose feeds the regulator’s second stage, the octopus and the BCD or drysuit inflator. Browse our high-pressure hoses and medium-pressure hoses.

The material: rubber or braided (Miflex)

Braided hoses such as Miflex HP and Miflex MP are lighter, more flexible and more kink-resistant than classic rubber — real comfort in a technical configuration. They exist for every part of the circuit.

The octopus hose

The octopus (backup second stage) often needs a longer, clearly identifiable hose. The Miflex octopus hose is designed for this use.

The inflator hose

The BCD or drysuit inflator connects at medium pressure via a dedicated hose, such as the Miflex DS inflator hose. See the inflators category.

Length and fittings

The length must follow your configuration (single or twin tank, rebreather, gauge position). Always check fitting compatibility with your first and second stages. When in doubt, confirm the exact reference.

When to replace a hose?

Cracks, swelling, fitting corrosion, leaks: a hose is replaced at the first signs of wear. On professional equipment used intensively, regular inspection is part of maintenance.

FAQ — Diving hoses

What is the difference between HP and MP hoses?
The high-pressure (HP) hose feeds the gauge; the medium-pressure (MP) hose feeds the second stage, octopus and inflator.

Why choose braided hoses (Miflex)?
They are lighter, more flexible and more kink-resistant than classic rubber.

Which hose for the inflator?
A dedicated medium-pressure hose, connected to the BCD or drysuit.

When to replace a hose?
As soon as cracks, swelling, fitting corrosion or a leak appear.
